Useful advices to “cultivate” the green fingers hobby: the plant selection for the interested period, the pot selection, the quantity of ground and clay, the tree planting, the conservation, watering and fertilizing; all what you need to know to realize a flower box!
The pot selection…
Terracotta or plastic? The first one is warm and natural; the second one is light, practical and cheap. These are the comparison factors normally taken into consideration when you need to decide about the kind of pot you want. There are however other aspects to be considered, for example the place where the pot will be collocated: if it is a sunny and windy place, the ground in the pot will suffer in this case a faster dewatering, especially for small pots, low and narrow boxes, under these conditions it is better to use resin pots and boxes.
The plant selection…
Spring is arriving and it brings with it the desire to “colour” gardens and terraces. The 1st thing to be considered in selecting the plants is the place where they will be collocated: if the shadow arrives in the afternoon, sun lover plants as geraniums and petunia might give a disappointing result. If there is sun in the morning we can consider to chose a verbena (it needs a fertile soil for an extended blooming and if it is not watered it withers very quickly, but it has quite good recovery skills) and the begonia (put it in a protected place, away from the strong sun rays, removing the withered flowers when they are withered, it will bloom until October).
